Dive In-to the Truth

The main purpose of this is to bring awareness to the community about the horrors that not only the whales have to suffer from being taken away from their natural habitat to be used in the entertainment industry. From having to perform daily to never getting to live the life of being free and in their natural habitat. Also, understanding that big corporationsaren’t always transparent with accidents that happen between the whales and the trainers.

Just because you’ve never gone to theses attractions doesn’t mean you shouln’t be aware of the problems that are causing harm to not only the whales but humans working with the whales. A documentary that really digs in deep for the truth behind it all is Blackfish.

Blackfish sparked a controversy that shook the world on July 19, 2013. The documentary depicted how SeaWorld mistreated the animals and hid the accidents and deaths of trainers by their main killer whale, Tilikum to the public eye. We chose this social issue for two reasons, one, The fact that the killer whales are taken from their natural habitats and exploit them to “entertain” for audiences at SeaWorld. Second, it is cruel of what extent they will go to look good in the media after tragedies that  happen with their whales and trainers. They both need justice of the mistreatment of SeaWorld.

I’m Already Late!!

UNT Dallas is a fast growing campus with a lot of beautiful wide open spaces that surround the school grounds. Even built a $63 million dollar building now known as the Student Center for more space and accomedities for more students. So, what else should UNT Dallas build next to accommodate all students as the numbers grow each year? More parking spots! But what what will it cost US?

As many of you already know the lack of parking has become a huge problem at UNT Dallas, however action has been taken in order to resolve this issue. According to Karyzma Torres an SGA member, “the area that is being looked at to add more parking lots is towards the northeast patio, which they’re hoping to get over 100 parking spaces”. Also, they’re hoping to add multiple entries into the university. Even though the university is hoping to add more parking lots the reason why the process is going slow is because they still have to get it approved by the city of Dallas. This is really important since the university plans on getting an increase in enrollment.

The clip above are two current UNT Dallas students who voiced their thought on the parking problems and a police officer who patrols the parking grounds.

One of the major complaints about parking is pricing. The general parking permit is $60 and the annual parking permit is $110. As disclosed by the Parking Office, “A permit itself is no guarantee of a parking space near the place where one works, resides, or attends class.” Students need to pay for parking even though there might not be enough space for everybody. As a solution, some students considered buying a reserved parking spot. Reserved parking, however, is only available for faculty and staff. So what can students do? According to the parking guide pamphlet, “parking on campus is a privilege not a right.” Students might feel discouraged to voice their opinions since parking isn’t something the school is obligated to offer.

Overall, UNT Dallas is still in the early stages of of it’s up bringing, so, for a couple more years when you get asked, “Where do you go to school?” and you reply, “UNT Dallas,” you will still get the “where?” and the “never heard of it” lines. However, the idea of improvement isn’t very far fetched especially with a school that proactive!

What do YOU Think About the Student Center?

When you ask someone about South Oak Cliff the word, “new” isn’t the first thing that comes to one mind. Instead its: Old, used, and unknown. But, then there’s the promising sight of UNT Dallas campus, a hidden gem amongst the rough.

The new Student Center building located on the UNT Dallas campus is the current hot topic. Not only is the building 131,000-square-foot and cost $63 million to construct. Every student of UNT Dallas can now access many amenities the building has to offer such as a new library, a fitness center, the advising center, tutoring labs, and the financial aid center. It’s a one-stop-shop for every student’s needs. However, what do the student and faculty think about this new Student Center? Well, here’s a couple of people’s thoughts…

The librarian Robert Taylor said, “I enjoy the new space,” “a great place to study,” “student can now check out more books,” but the downside is “fewer people come because its on the third floor instead of the first floor,” overall, he really enjoys the new Library. Then, after speaking to two students in the Student Center we gather good intel on the building and their thought. Student one said, “I like the building and would recommend to other students to go and study there,” and the second student said, “love the new rooms and especially the new Auditorium,” all very positive answers.

Overall, the new Student Center is well liked and will continue to stand and be used for the new generations of students in the future.

What is the Democratization of Knowledge?

Now the big question what do I think about the Democratization of Knowledge? Should it be allowed? There are many sides to this discussion of both pros and cons. However, I’m on the side that pro common people having the ability to acquire and disperse information.

The beginning of the so-called Democratization of Knowledge was when the first printing press was established. Later on, it was the public libraries of course now its the internet.

I believe the Democratization of Knowledge is important in today’s world because you can find relevant and useful information at the tip of our fingers. The internet is where Democratization of Knowledge is seen the most because of websites like Wikipedia that anyone can add information or take away. There are some cons to do but because it’s such a widely used website that has quite information people all around use it when researching information. Almost anything can be found just by looking it up on the web.

The scene from the movie “Project X” when the “Costa” one of the main characters prohibits the cops from searching the house in the most classy way possible (BELOW)

Imagine it’s midnight and you’re on some old country road with a flat tire, no cars in sight and you don’t have Triple-A, what will you do if you have no knowledge of cars? Easy look it up on the web where there are over thousands of videos, pictures, essays, news articles, etc that will take you step by step on how to change a tire. Another example where the Democratization of Knowledge is also very useful.

Overall, the internet has practically reached the four corner of the earth as the saying goes. While not everyone likes the idea of being able to find information with just saying the words, “Hey Siri” or “Hey Alexa” because places like the library are being forgotten by newer generations. It’s still important for the “common” people to be able to access the information they may need at the time and it not have to come from privileged and elite people, instead of from people who have learned from experience and time.

Can You Spot The Diffrence ? O Wait…

Should Warner Bros agree on giving money to someone who had no legal right over an art work?

Warner Bros. has been having a lot of legal problems these last few years, leading to million-dollar lawsuit settlements. An example is a fight between Warner Bros and Mike Tyson’s tattoo Artist: S. Victor Whitmill. Now, the discussion at hand is whether the tattoo artist Whitmill should get compensated by the company for using his artwork which they copied and used in a film without Whitmill’s concent? And I agree that he should get money for his artwork.

TOP: The tattoo on actor Ed Helms’s face is identical to that of Mike Tysons’s face tatoo.

However, some people may disagree and say, “well it’s not like he had copyrights” it’s still his creation. Well, when the company Forever 21’s recent advertisements for their new line of clothes and accessories came out, Ariana Grande decided that because of the likeness to her and her recent “7 Rings” music video she would hit them with a 10 million dollar lawsuit.

The irony of that whole fiasco is that Ariana Grande herself was accused of stealing person likeness by none other than Farrah Moan who called the singer a, “hypocrite” because the outfit Ariana is wearing in the “7 Rings” music video is very similar to Farrah Moan’s as seen below.

Overall, I don’t agree on Whithmill getting 900M like a more recent case with the ‘Conjuring’ franchise and the rights to the story. However, the movie “Hangover 2” did make a lot of money because of everything the movie included and that includes his artwork that was portrayed in the film so, I do believe he should get if a substantial amount of money to settle the argument.

Is there ANYTHING I can do for you?

Peoples checklist when hiring usually consist of; work ethic, attitude, timeliness, and how much they charge but, you never really think about their appearance or do they? Should you turn away someone who fits all the criteria but just because of their a 10/10 on the hotness scale? What if they’re a single parent who is just trying to find a job to sustain their family but is cursed to have a face and/or body fit for the gods. Just because they have certain charming features they shouldn’t be discarded over something they can’t control. Now if they use them for an advantage that’s a whole different story.

Imagine you’re a big shot celebrity with a stunning, eye-catching, drop-dead gorgeous spouse. raise your hand if that’s you…yeah exactly, not everyone gets that kind of luck. I would say that’s the case with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. According to US Magzine, “Ben Affleck had been romancing with the 28-year-old nanny and was believed to be the cause of their divorce” leaving everyone shocked. However, later on, Jennifer Garner finally speaks out and according to CafeMom during a Vanity Fair interview, she revealed that they had separated before Christine Ouzounian (Nanny) and Ben Affleck romance even started.

In any relationship there will be problems big or small and to some people cheating is small and to others its a deal-breaker that’s because different people understand things differently. After watching the clip called “How People In Happy Relationships Can End Up Cheating” the idea that people cheat not because they are attracted to the other person but more about self-seeking and a wanting to enjoy life.

The idea of if there is no temptation they won’t be tempted can be true but it also has its holes because not everyone is attracted to looks but to the soul kinda like the beauty and the beast, even tho the beast was well a beast, belle was able to look past the looks and into his heart which later he turned into a handsome prince. So, the features of a person shouldn’t be the reason for them to be turned down for any job.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
